Deepika Padukone was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Her family moved to Bangalore, Karnataka, India, when she was eleven months old. Padukone is of Mangalorean origin, and her mother tongue is Konkani. Her lineage hails from Padukone village in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District of the southern state of Karnataka.

Deepika Padukone was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006.

She played state level badminton till the 10th standard.

She took up modeling as a hobby, but later realized she wanted to do it professionally.

Deepika Padukone attended Sophia High School in Bangalore, and completed her pre-university studies at Mount Carmel College Bangalore.

Personal life

In March 2008, Padukone began dating Ranbir Kapoor, her co-star from the film Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008). The couple broke up in November 2009.
